21-Year-Old Keeps Scottie at Bay

And who would’ve thought that on a random Monday we would be talking about a 21-year-old outdoing Scottie Scheffler and an LPGA veteran breaking her winless spell of 10-plus years. Yet, here we are, covering newly minted champion Jackson Koivun and a veteran who returned to the winner’s circle, Jenny Shin. But don’t fret; we also talk about the winners across different tours and the many moments you might have missed, including near aces and more, in this edition.

3M Open: It could’ve gone differently. Especially when fans at TPC Twin Cities were chanting, "Scottie's comin' ... Scottie's comin'." Scottie Scheffler (2nd/-22) was indeed chasing him, yet things didn’t go any differently than Jackson Koivun (1st/-25) imagined. That’s because the 21-year-old wrote a message for himself on his glove to steady his nerves. Amanda Balionis asked him to show and explain it to the world after the victory—watch it here.

Koivun was 3-under for his first six holes on Sunday, but Scottie was making a charge with three back-to-back birdies between 11th and 13th. Another birdie on the 16th left him behind by only two strokes. Koivun, however, responded with a birdie of his own on the 16th and extended that gap to three. And to Scheffler’s bogey-free 8-under 63, Koivun carded a blemish-free 5-under 66 to capture his first PGA Tour win in his third start. And set a tournament record of 28 on the back nine.

ISPS Handa Women’s Scottish Open: Jenny Shin (1st/-9) wasn’t a favorite. She had missed the cut in three of her last four starts and hadn’t won in ten-plus years. Yet, she flipped the narrative after winning wire-to-wire, two strokes over A Lim Kim (-7/2nd), for her first title in 3,737 days. Guess who's happier than her? Her peers—listen to the cheers and watch the hugs.

This makes her the first female golfer to have a gap of 10 years between wins since Vicki Fergon in 1996. She has also punched her ticket to the Tournament of Champions for the next two years.

Only three left-handed golfers have won the U.S. Junior Amateur title. But can you name which famous Lefty isn’t one of them? 68% of our readers failed.

Oops: Brian Harman (T3/-20) and Scottie Scheffler (2nd) were sitting in the scoring arena when Harman realized the camera was on them. The left-hander jokingly showed his middle finger to the camera. But it’s Scottie’s reaction that caught everyone’s eye—check it out here.

Weird: Tyrrell Hatton (2nd/-24) spotted fans wearing shirts printed with his face and adorned with lipstick kisses and little hearts. He called it the most tragic thing he’d ever seen. What’s your verdict after checking this?

Different worlds: Ross Steelman (3rd/-21) notched KFT’s sixth hole-in-one on a par-4, as you can see here. Jake Knapp (T13/-16) and John VanDerLaan (T39/-10) had a rougher time at the 3M Open. Knapp’s shot stopped just shy of the hole. VanDerLaan’s shot finished absurdly close to the cup.

ISPS Handa Senior Open: Jerry Kelly (1st/-10) claimed his third senior major title with a two-shot win over Matt Gogel, Darren Fichardt, and Cameron Percy. He nearly made a meal of it on the 18th after finding the greenside bunker on the 72nd hole—but watch how he still sealed the deal.

LIV Golf UK: Lucas Herbert (1st/-30) blazed to a wire-to-wire win by six shots, setting the bar as LIV’s lowest winning score ever. He also piled up a tournament-best 30 birdies and 32 combined birdies and eagles. His bushy-bearded caddie Nick Pugh couldn’t be happier. He opened his arms as his beard was showered with champagne.

Evans Scholars Invitational: Tommy Morrison (1st/-29) claimed his first pro title, pulling away by three strokes from Dylan Menante (-26), securing his PGA Tour card for the next season.
