Charlie Woods Made the Clever Choice

Feb 14, 2026 | Edition #263

 👋 Hey Golf Fans,

Charlie Woods is ready to walk a different path from Tiger—more details here in case you missed the update. Today, we explain why this could supercharge his budding golf career. Meanwhile, whispers in town suggest the PGA Tour could leave East Lake for good. More updates on that, along with a killer drill for nailing your fades and draws, plus Scottie's jail-time story in this edition.

Let’s get started…

Prudent

Charlie Woods is a winner. He is also an achiever. That is why the golf cognoscenti are curiously waiting to see him get better, better, and better. The 17-year-old has committed to Florida State University instead of Stanford, where his dad, Tiger, graduated. It has left many wondering why, yet it’s a prudent decision.

Woods Jr. will join Miles Russell, No. 1 on the AJGA Rolex Rankings, in the Class of 2027. Watch these two teen sensations playing together here. With both teaming up next year, the bond is only expected to grow, and they will thrive.

On top of that, the Seminoles boast a top-tier NCAA golf program, helmed by GCAA Hall of Famer Trey Jones. Over 23 years, Jones has shepherded major champs like Brooks Koepka, PGA Tour pros like Daniel Berger, and rising stars like Luke Clanton. Clanton has already earned a PGA Tour card and bagged two runner-up finishes.

Two years back, Seminoles reached the NCAA Golf National Championship finals, only to fall 3-2 to Auburn. Guess what they did next? FSU modified its home course, Seminole Legacy Golf Club, altering one hole to replicate the 16th at La Costa, where the NCAA Championship final is hosted every year. That screams doggedness.

So to be handpicked by Jones means Charlie is no fluke. His big break came with winning the Team TaylorMade Invitational in May 2025. He currently ranks 21st in the AJGA Rolex Rankings. Charlie’s power off the tee, sharp wedge game, and steady putting prove he's ready to take on the challenge. And FSU is ready to grant him something special: the space to carve out a legacy outside of his father’s shadow.

Grave

For whom the bell tolls: East Lake might feel like the home of the Tour Championship in perpetuity. But the next year’s edition will likely ditch the venue for the first time in over 20 years. And for good. It was considered too easy for a season finale. But there is also a bigger reason at play: profitability. In fact, the PGA Tour plans to move all the playoff events, and guess where? Nevertheless, with Atlanta all but gone from the rotation, let's raise a metaphorical toast to this rare Tiger-Phil banter from 2002 at East Lake.

Disgrace: Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem, the CEO of DP World (title sponsor of the European Tour), has surfaced in the Epstein files. He was dubbed a “close personal friend” by Jeffrey Epstein. They swapped “dozens, if not hundreds” of emails from 2007 to 2018. The connection actually runs deeper, as this report will tell you. Bin Sulayem was considered the architect behind the European Tour’s deal with DP World. He was frequently seen at the DP World Tour Championship. Amid the uproar, Sulayem stepped down and was replaced.

Kick-off: NFL has inked a deal with Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy’s TMRW Sports to run its new flag football league. A bunch of NFL team owners are already part of the company and own stakes in TGL teams. Regardless, TMRW Sports had to prove its worth against a dozen other bidders. Here is more on the deal. For the uninitiated, flag football is football sans the head injury concerns. Check out this jaw-dropping play from a teenager—she almost broke her opponent’s ankles.

Tricks

Having trouble shaping fades and draws? Allow Wyndham Clark to fix that with this drill. Take seven balls and put them in a straight horizontal line. Take a few steps back. Place a ball slightly forward in your stance. Now, follow these next steps.

  • The center ball is for straight shots, three balls on the left for fades, and three balls on the right for draws, ranging from slight cuts to bigger fades or draws, respectively.

  • To hit a fade, aim the clubface at the first ball on the left. Then, align your body and swing path toward the second ball. This creates a left path with an open face for a small fade. Don’t ignore the footwork—notice Wyndham’s trail leg movement below.

  • For draws, aim the clubface at the first ball on the right, and swing towards the second ball. This fosters a rightward path with a shut face, producing a tight draw.

You can check face angle with an old yardage book; watch Wyndham do it at the end of the video. If you want a deeper dive, here are a few more drills.

Crazy

Scottie Scheffler's son Bennett was a mere eight days old when his dad was arrested right before the second round of the PGA Championship. The body cam footage will still shock you. We knew he was stretching inside the jail cell to keep himself fit. But we didn’t know what was going on in his mind. Until recently.

The World No. 1 opened up to Robby Berger of Bob Does Sports. Yes, that includes Scottie watching himself getting arrested on TV. What was his reaction to the absurdity of it all? Watch it here. Meanwhile, the officers were quite curious to befriend Scheffler, as this audio footage proves.

After he was released on bail, fans swarmed him wearing “Free Scottie” shirts. Scottie even shook hands with a few of them. Two years later, the entire fiasco seems no less ridiculous.
