Ernie Els Dares Tiger Woods

Aug 30, 2025 | Edition #190

 👋 Hey Golf Fans,

Please sign the petition started by Ernie Els to get Tiger back on the course. Just kidding, Els didn’t start any petition. He seemed to have found a better way. Throwing a challenge. All about that in today’s edition, along with ground reports from TPC Boston and more.

Let’s tee off…

Champions Calling

Ernie Els wants Tiger Woods to join him on the PGA Tour Champions next year. Big Easy isn't exactly asking nicely. No. He's throwing a not-so-subtle challenge at Woods: "Beat us again... if you can." That’s one way of getting Tiger’s attention.

But Els isn’t salivating over the prospect of hurting his old foe when he is weak. Yes, he finished second to Tiger five times. But Els wants Tiger to be on the Senior Tour to “get his ass back in shape” (his exact words, not ours).

The timing couldn't be more perfect. Woods turns 50 on December 30, 2025, making him eligible for the Senior Tour. And his prospect of another PGA Tour title is getting slimmer day by day. Early this year, Woods ruptured his Achilles tendon, and he has been out of golf ever since.

Return date? Well, Woods was spotted at the U.S. Junior Amateur Championship to cheer for his son, Charlie. Apparently, he left a hint of return, which you can easily spot if you look closely.

Regardless, Els believes the Champions Tour's 54-hole format will revive Tiger's competitive fire. Courses on the Senior Tour are not as punishing as Augusta, Muirfield, or Bay Hill. And Els didn’t forget to mention: “He can ride a cart without any shame.”

Now, Woods might rule the roost there, like Phil did (6 tournaments, 4 wins). But his joining the Senior Tour will benefit the circuit as well. Tiger's presence historically drives an enormous crowd. And if there is another Woods-Els final-round showdown, the TV ratings for the Senior Tour will shoot through the roof.

So, it’s a win-win scenario — and the ball is now in Tiger’s court.

Uninvited Guest

Everything that could go wrong at the FM Championship did go wrong. Weather delays. Dark skies. Thunderstorms. Name it, and the event had it. Three times the round was suspended — the longest being a two and a half hour delay.

Eventually, the LPGA threw a late-night curveball by suspending the second round at 7:15 p.m. due to darkness. And Jeeno Thitikul, Hannah Green, and Lauren Coughlin were running against time — quite literally here, as you can see them three sprinting toward the green — to complete their round.

But the LPGA pros handled Murphy’s Law pretty well. Jeeno and Hannah posted 68s, while Lauren’s 73 didn’t fare as well. Meanwhile, Nelly Korda's recent putter tweak paid off with a 5-under 67 on Thursday, thanks to seven birdies. In fact, Korda was inches away from a hole-in-one, as you can see below:

Yesterday, Nelly’s round was halted at the 4th hole. She is now four strokes behind the leader, Miranda Wang. The Chinese rookie is holding steady at 11 under after a 66 and a 67.

The catch? Miranda’s Friday round took a long time. Care to guess how long? It’ll beat your wildest imagination.

Meanwhile, Lexi Thompson is at 3-under after finishing two rounds. Madelene Sagstrom, on the other hand, is in solo second after 36 holes. If she goes on to win, she will become the first multi-time winner of the LPGA Tour this season. But right now, looks like all the players at TPC Boston are not just battling against each other. They are battling against Mother Nature!

Heel Fix

You've been lining up the perfect shot, everything's in place... and then it hits: a sharp heel pain that throws off your entire swing. It's a nightmare, but one that's more common than you think. But what if a simple fix could change that? Give this one a shot and then thank us (later!):

  • Position: Stand with your feet hip-width apart, then lift your heel off the floor so you're balancing on the ball of your feet, exactly as it is demonstrated here.

  • Hold: Freeze that position for 20 to 30 seconds. Keep your ankle rock solid, no swaying. Repeat on the other side.

  • Load it up: For an added challenge, hold weight in your hands or on your shoulders. But make sure the form remains intact, exactly as shown below.

Start with sets of 30 seconds and build up. This easy exercise builds strong calves and ankles, giving you better balance and a more powerful swing. Once you are more comfortable with this exercise, move on to the ones listed below.

Charlie Woods is struggling to live up to the hype surrounding him at Junior Players. The 16-year-old is gunning for a title at TPC Sawgrass, his dad’s stomping ground.

Lydia Ko reveals she was “legally blind.” The former world no.1 opened up about her health setback that nearly stopped her LPGA career from starting.

Justin Thomas shows strong support for PGA Tour winner snubbed by Keegan Bradley. His heartfelt words reveal why Bradley wanted JT on the team.

Homemade

All of us at some point packed granola bars for mid-round munching. We thought we made a wise choice for sustained energy, right? But many of those bars contain three or four different forms of sugar, as Rachael Ajmera, MS, RD, explains here. Plus a long list of ingredients that sabotage your focus when it matters most.

It’s about time you switched that for a homemade granola bar! Toast some oats until fragrant. Melt butter and honey together until golden perfection. Fold in cranberries and mini chocolate chips. Press everything into a pan and let it set. The homemade version takes just 20 minutes to prepare. See just how simple this kitchen magic is.
