On January 6, 1957, Nancy Lopez was born in Torrance, California. A golf prodigy taught by her father, Lopez turned professional in 1977 and quickly transformed the LPGA Tour. Her 1978 rookie season remains legendary, as she won nine times, including five straight victories, while sweeping Rookie of the Year, Player of the Year, and the Vare Trophy. Over her Hall of Fame career, Lopez claimed 48 LPGA titles and three major championships, while also helping bring women’s golf into the national spotlight through her talent and sportsmanship. |
