Fleetwood’s 'Almost' Story Ends Here

Aug 24, 2025 | Edition #187
👋 Hey Golf Fans,
Tommy Fleetwood did joke about this on Tuesday. Him winning the Tour Championship for his maiden victory on American soil. Five days later, the lanky Englishman walks away from East Lake with not one, but two titles: Tour Championship winner and 2025 FedEx Cup champion. More on Fleetwood’s triumph — plus the moments you missed and Happy Gilmore’s new record — in today’s edition.
Let’s dive in…

Finally

Tommy Fleetwood conquered 163 starts of heartbreak in one glorious Sunday. The 34-year-old Englishman fired a closing 68 to capture his maiden PGA Tour victory at the 2025 Tour Championship by three commanding shots. Moreover, he claimed the PGA Tour’s ultimate prize—the FedExCup.
He certainly had some help in the form of Patrick Cantlay’s early disasters and Scottie Scheffler’s out-of-bounds tee shot. But until the 15th, when Scheffler’s drive plunged into the water, Fleetwood was walking with uncertainties. He has been there before. More than a couple of times.
The latest being the FedEx St. Jude Championship barely three weeks back. How do you mend those wounds? Can you? Those were the questions lingering in every fan’s mind. Not in Fleetwood’s. “I’ve been a PGA Tour winner for a long time; it’s just always been in my mind,” said the man.
The smile, the fist pump, and the roar — you can watch this on loop and your eyes will be wet every time.
Fleetwood's breakthrough moment carries immense historical weight. He becomes the first player ever to make the Tour Championship his maiden PGA Tour victory. The man who carried the weight of near-misses is now the man who conquered it all.
On the other hand, Patrick Cantlay tied for second place at 15-under. His hopes all but crumbled with a disastrous bogey-double bogey start on Sunday. Scheffler was still very much in the mix till the 15th, but eventually finished at T4.
At the end of the day, it was Fleetwood’s East Lake. The gallery (along with Caitlin Clark and LeBron James) was rooting for the Englishman. Seems like Golf Gods were too.

Sip With Class
Picture this: you’re heading out for a round. You're ready to pack a smooth whiskey or cocktail to celebrate (or cope). But the flask? It’s too bulky. We’ve all been there. That’s where High Camp Torch Flasks step in. They’re premium, portable, and now under $90.
Benefits:
Portable: Slim and light enough to slip into a golf bag, or even your jacket.
Endurance: Distiller-grade stainless steel with double-wall insulation.
Utility: Funnel-free bottom cap makes filling easy (yes, even with ice).
Swings and sips now made easier… and classier than ever before!

Hidden Highlights

Between Fleetwood’s win and Brooke Henderson’s CPKC Women’s Canadian Open triumph (the celebration was totally worth it), the golf world delivered some unforgettable moments this week! Here are our top five gems you definitely missed:
Aerial ace: Angel Hidalgo smashed an 8-iron from 156 yards on the 7th tee at the Betfred British Masters. It didn’t touch the green. Watch the jaw-dropping slam-dunk ace here.
Yellow ribbons: You probably didn’t notice it, but every player was wearing a yellow ribbon today at East Lake. Can you guess why? It’s a special gesture and involves World No.1 Scottie Scheffler.
Rivals Friends: Rory McIlroy gifted a putt to Scottie. Cheating? Not at all. Rory and Scottie had a similar read on the green. Rory went first. He missed. Scheffler took note. The World No.1’s gesture towards No.2 after the putt proves even rivals can't help but be friends.
Four-legged friends: Being a guard dog is no easy feat. Not when you are assigned the duties of protecting a golf club’s properties. That too at a professional golf tournament. Just look at these good boys on the cart, they stole the limelight and a few hearts, too.
Busy guy: Okay, many of us have volunteered in golf tournaments. But we bet none of you can claim to be as dedicated to the job as this one right here. Fleetwood’s ball landed past the spectators, and watch how this Tour Championship volunteer reacted to that.
Well, that wraps up the regular season. But these moments show us why we love this game beyond the scorecard!. Off to the Procore Championship and the Ryder Cup.

Sync Solution

Your drives sailing into the trees? Not the drives, the separation between your body and arms might be the actual villain. Most golfers let their hands take control instead of trusting their pivot. Tommy Fleetwood built his reputation on the opposite approach: everything moves as one synchronized unit. Here is how you can emulate that:
Setup: Maintain the triangle between your shoulders and hands. Think "dead weight" hanging from your torso, not independent levers trying to help.
Movement: Start your takeaway with body rotation only. Let your arms get pulled along for the ride. No lifting, no independent arm swing, as Padraig Harrington demonstrates below.
Finish: Turn through impact while keeping arms connected to your chest. Feel like you're dragging your hands with body rotation; as Fleetwood explains here.
This is just one piece of your ball-striking puzzle, though. Practice with your feet together, as that will force your body to rotate. And if you are aiming for a smoother tempo, We’ve got you covered there, too.
Skill-up Further: How to Master the Tempo for Effortless Swing

Patrick Cantlay faces another stinging on-air rebuke for his slow play. Even broadcasters are running out of patience.
NBC is again in the crosshairs of fans. This time, for a bold call, they took ahead of the Tour Championship final round.
Keegan Bradley might have a top-ten at the Tour Championship. But the U.S. Ryder Cup captain’s controversial putting method has landed him in trouble.

Happy Breaks Records

It was to be expected. Happy Gilmore 2 set another Netflix record (here is the first one). The Adam Sandler sequel to the cult classic movie received 2.89 billion minutes of viewing time in the United States from July 25-27. That figure represents the largest single-week viewing total in the history of Nielsen’s Streaming Top 10 rankings. That also beats the previous record of 2.889 billion minutes for Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery.
And it’s fitting. Sandler brought together PGA Tour and LIV Golf stars like we've never seen. He also went on to poke fun at the whole LIV - PGA drama through a fictional rival league called "Maxi Golf." Did you see Scottie Scheffler’s cameo from inside prison? If not, do yourself a favor and go watch it here. Oh, the original Happy Gilmore also jumped back into Netflix's top 10. Any surprise there?
