Spiro Agnew at the 1971 Bob Hope Desert Golf Classic Pro-Am
On February 13, 1971, then-Vice President Spiro Agnew injured three spectators while teeing off at the Bob Hope Desert Golf Classic Pro-Am. His first shot was a slice that struck a 66-year-old man and his wife. After apologizing to them, Agnew returned to the tee box only to shank his next shot, hitting a woman in the gallery. She was sent to the hospital for X-rays. Agnew moved on, continuing to play further down the hole.
