Golf’s Mixed-Gender Challenge Returns

Dec 11, 2025 | Edition #235
👋 Hey Golf Fans,
It’s that time of the year again. No, not the PNC Championship. 16 teams of LPGA and PGA Tour pros will be in Florida for the Grant Thornton Invitational. Amid golf’s silly (and sometimes boring) season, it brings a breath of fresh air. Meanwhile, we’re stirring up some rage-filled memories from the season, talking about Bryson helping Kai Trump and more in today’s edition.
Let’s get started…

Team Spirit

The Grant Thornton Invitational, a mixed-gender shindig co-hosted by the PGA Tour and LPGA Tour, returns for its third iteration this week. For the uninitiated, the 16-team event is played in a scramble (Friday), foursome (Saturday), and modified fourball (Sunday) format.
The host, Tiburon Golf Club’s Gold Course, is a par-72 layout completed by Greg Norman in 1998. It plays to 6,788 yards for female golfers, while for the males, it stretches to 7,382 yards. This mostly flat Florida layout is lined with towering cypress and pine trees. Meanwhile, water plays spoiler on 13 holes.
The fairways are generous, and there’s no first cut of rough, just four-inch native grass and coquina shell waste areas waiting to punish any stray drives. The putting greens can roll at a brisk 12½ on the Stimpmeter.
The star-studded line-up includes Lexi Thompson. She made the tournament’s first hole-in-one here in 2023 — watch her high-fiving Rickie Fowler here.
Instead of Fowler, she has paired up with Wyndham Clark this time. On the other hand, defending champs Jake Knapp and Patty Tavatanakit — a.k.a. Team Rocco — aim to repeat last year’s wire-to-wire win. But Brooke Henderson and Corey Conners won’t make it easy. They finished T2 and T4 in the last two editions.
Meanwhile, Lydia Ko and Jason Day partner again, after a title in the first edition, and a T6 last year. Charley Hull returns as well, but her last year’s teammate, Daniel Berger, withdrew, making way for long-hitter Michael Brennan.
Essentially, it’s all about team spirit this week.

Walk the Talk
Winter’s unpredictability demands a little more from the gear you trust. That’s where Timberland’s men’s boots, now up to 30% off, come in. Designed for durability but crafted with remarkable comfort, they’re built to keep you moving through the season without hesitation.
All-weather traction: Rugged outsoles grip confidently on wet sidewalks and snow.
Premium insulation: Keeps warmth in and cold out.
Water-resistant protection: Weatherproof materials help you stay dry through slush.
Lasting craftsmanship: Sturdy construction and quality leather.
Everyday versatility: Built tough enough for winter, refined enough for daily wear.
Timberland has always made boots with purpose — pieces that feel grounded, reliable, and ready for the long haul. With the Winter Sale in full swing, it’s the right moment to choose footwear that respects both the elements and your time.

Worst of 2025

Golf gets into your head. Add to that the pressure of tournament golf, and losing your temper is sometimes an inevitable consequence. Here are five such moments from this year, where anger got the better of golfers.
Scottie Scheffler: During the 2nd round of the Tour Championship, Scottie’s bunker shot on the par-4 14th missed the pin by 10 feet. An animated Scheffler slammed his wedge into the bunker with all his might. But it’s what he did right after that showed character and separated him from everyone. Watch the moment below.
Tyrrell Hatton: On the par-4 18th at Quail Hollow, Hatton sprayed his drive left into a creek. And he was… well, mad. The mic caught his not-safe-for-work outburst involving the C-word. But he did something more egregious that raised calls for fines and bans.
Brooks Koepka: They say it’s not a party until something gets broken. And LIV Golf Dallas proved it true. Brooks blasted a drive on the 9th that he hated, slammed his driver, then shattered the tee box marker. Watch that tee marker vanish into the crowd here.
Shane Lowry: On the short par-4 eighth at Quail Hollow, Lowry’s ball landed in a pitch mark. Officials denied relief, and the Offaly man stubbed his second shot about 30 yards into a greenside bunker. Before anyone could disconnect the mic, Lowry went on a foul-mouthed outburst, as you can see here.
Wyndham Clark: Clark lost his cool on the 16th during the PGA Championship final round, pulling a drive into the bunker before tomahawking his club. He nearly hit a marshal. Clark apologized later, but we’d argue the memory of this moment will haunt him.
Well, that’s our top-five rage moments, but we also dived deeper. So, here is top-five club throws and club slams of this year. Ranked from worst to best.

Perfect Setup

Nothing beats hitting greens in regulation when it comes to lowering your handicap. The best players nail them; the worst... well, not so much. It’s all about the perfect setup, which most of us ignore. But lucky for you, we’ve got the perfect drill to fix that.
Use alignment sticks to ensure feet, hips, and shoulders point toward the target. Check ball position relative to your stance for consistent contact.
Place your feet directly over the alignment stick, centered on your arches. Place 50% weight on the front foot and 50% on the back foot to stay balanced.
Avoid excess flex in the legs or leaning too far onto the toes. Never overlook the importance of body alignment. Watch PGA Professional Andy Proudman demonstrate it below.
For a better understanding, use a mirror behind you at the driving range or your phone. Nail this drill a few more times, then tackle the ones we’ve listed below.

Homework Help

Between his “Break 50” series and endless fun challenges, it’s a wonder Bryson DeChambeau has any time left to actually work on golf. Or help a teenager with her school project. Which, yes, really happened. Bryson assisted Kai Trump on her homework with some pretty deep questions you don’t usually see him face. The highlight, though, was how he handles criticism.
But it’s not always so serious. Last year, the two tried a trick shot on the driving range: Kai would chip the ball toward DeChambeau, and Bryson would smash it mid-air with his driver. That was the plan. Watch what actually happened instead.
