On this day in 1964, "Aquaman" Woody Austin was born in Tampa, Florida. A University of Miami grad, he turned pro in 1986 and earned 1995 PGA Tour Rookie of the Year honors. He won 11 pro titles, including 4 each on the PGA Tour and the PGA Tour Champions. His fame peaked on the second day at the 2007 Presidents Cup, where he fell face-first into water on the 14th hole while hitting a submerged lie. Austin wore scuba goggles on Sunday, thus earning his nickname. |
