In 2004, Tom Watson’s long-time caddie, Bruce Edwards, passed away from complications of ALS. Watson wanted to honor him at Augusta, so he adopted one of Edwards’ habits. Edwards always used to sit on the bench at the par-5 13th and eat an egg salad sandwich while waiting for the group ahead to clear the fairway. Watson began bringing an egg salad sandwich to the tee each day, leaving it on the bench for Edwards. It had become his own tradition until 2016, when he played his final Masters.
