Turning pro in 1961 and launching his full Tour career in 1962, he claimed his first major at the U.S. Open by defeating fan-favorite Arnold Palmer. Nicklaus amassed 117 professional victories while setting many records, including an unmatched 24-year span between his first and last major wins. |
