Rare Double Ace Starts Wild Week

Nov 27, 2025 | Edition #230
👋 Hey Golf Fans,
Happy Thanksgiving! While you celebrate with your family and friends, we’ve rounded up five iconic moments from Skins Games history that we are all thankful for. Catch up on those before this year’s Skins Game starts. On the other hand, the Australian PGA Championship got off to a well, topsy-turvy start. We’ll deep dive into both stories and more in today’s edition.
Let’s get started…

Rewarding

The Royal Queensland Golf Club, the host of the Australian PGA Championship, was first designed by Carnegie Clark in 1920. This par-71, 7,085-yard layout was extensively renovated in 2007. Perched by the Brisbane River, the Royal Queensland is exposed to winds and water hazards on eight holes.
Thanks to the scant rough, the fairways rank as the DP World Tour's second-easiest since 2020. But waste areas girdle most holes, and cavernous, uneven bunkers punish wayward shots. Meanwhile, with shaved run-offs, the greens firmly hold their place among the top 10 toughest to reach.
Of course, you won’t have to worry about all that if you can hit an ace. And there have been two already in the opening round. The first one came from Kazuma Kobori on the 17th. The second came from Sydney local, Daniel Gale, who also pocketed a prize worth more than what he earned in his DPWT career.
The first round was suspended due to adverse weather. Sebastian Garcia (no, he is not related to Sergio Garcia) sits at the top with three holes still left to play. Gale follows him at solo second, and so do six pros at T3.
The 2023 champion, Min Woo Lee, is back on the course, along with defending champ Elvis Smylie. Marco Penge is also playing to win. Before the round suspension, only Lee seemed to get lucky, sitting at T9 with a solid 68.
After 2016, no outsiders ever lifted the trophy here. Spanish golfer Garcia has a chance to reverse the course of history.

Nod to the Past

The Skins Game returns today on Prime Video (9 a.m. ET). On the occasion, here’s a look back at the most unforgettable moments from this iconic event.
Lost: Annika Sorenstam outdrove Fred Funk at the 2005 Skins Game. Honoring their fun wager, Funk donned the pink flowered skirt that Sorenstam ‘gifted’ him. Of course, Funk struggled to squat while reading his putt. And of course, Tiger threw a sassy ‘two-balls’ joke at him. Let us present you with the most hilarious moment in the history of the Skins game.
Raining: Chi Chi Rodriguez was a hoot and a half. So it’s no surprise he gauged the wind by tossing dollar bills skyward with some punchy jokes. Even Arnold Palmer couldn’t control his laughter, as you can see here.
Conspire: Jack Nicklaus and Arnold Palmer ‘teamed up’ in the 1986 Skins game to stop Lee Trevino when he was tantalizingly close to clinching the 3rd hole (and $45,000). They were successful, but Trevino won the day with his pointed quips at Arnie — check out the classic moment.
One-up: Tiger Woods, at the 1997 Skins game, unleashed a 350-yard drive. David Duval nudged Mark O'Meara, noting how Tiger had left them in the dust. When Mark threw the age card into the ring, Tiger fired back with a razor-sharp one-liner. Do you remember this one?
Long: John Daly was 25 on his Skins debut in 1991. Yet, playing with Payne Stewart, Jack Nicklaus, and Curtis Strange at PGA West, Daly walked away with the largest check and loudest cheers. Watch him nail this monster drive against 50 mph wind gusts, along with Vin Scully’s hilarious commentary.

Core

The weakest spot in most golfers' bodies? The core. Ironically, the part you need the most for power and control over your swing. Try this Pilates exercise from PGA Tour pro, Mark Hubbard, to get your core in gear and your swing on point.
Lie down in a neutral pelvis position, and keep your feet hip-distance apart.
Pull your tailbone gently toward your buttocks. Engage your abdominal muscles to stabilize the core.
Slowly lift the torso while keeping your upper body steady and controlled. Stay for a few seconds and then lower your torso back, almost touching the mat. Breathing control is crucial — notice how Hubbard is doing it in the video below:
Relax by tossing your legs lightly and shaking them out to relieve tension. Once you’re comfortable, here are the other pilates exercises to tone you up further.

Confident

Korda’s season might have been a let-down, but she hasn’t lost her sense of humor. The World No. 2 turned up at TaylorMade’s annual shoot in Florida. So did her ‘golf crush,’ Tommy Fleetwood, and Korda finally did what she couldn’t in the 2021 Olympics — mustering up the courage to ask Fleetwood for a picture. That time, Mel Reid had to initiate the conversation.
Check the before-and-after pictures, and you will be able to tell the difference in Nelly’s posture.
Of course, Korda was shy then. The same year, she first crossed paths with Tiger Woods at the PNC Championship. She approached Woods with the shyness of a little kid meeting her idol for the first time. Korda’s priceless reaction will tell you how much it meant to her.
