Scottie & JT’s Last Stop Before Big Stage

Sept 11, 2025 | Edition #195

 👋 Hey Golf Fans,

The Ryder Cup is just two weeks away, and Team USA is looking to shake off any rust at the Procore Championship. Let's dive into what makes Silverado so challenging, why Keegan is inspired by Scottie, and throw in some tips to help you fix that nagging shoulder.

Onwards…

Final Test

The host of the Procore Championship, Silverado Resort, may not have undergone a major facelift since 2011, but this par-72 layout still packs a punch. In 2024, the 7,138-yard Napa Valley course ranked as the 18th hardest on the PGA Tour, with a scoring average of 71.238.

But what really sets Silverado apart is its merciless fairways and punishing greens. Less than half of drives – a mere 46.81% – found the short grass in 2024. That shouldn’t be a surprise. Just check how narrow the fairways are, and you will see why pros find it hard to land there.

On the other hand, the Bentgrass/Poa annua greens are equally unforgiving. So, approach shots and performance on the greens will determine the champion. Not a coincidence that the last two winners finished close to the top in SG: Putting.

Speaking of which, Justin Thomas (+1600) is looking to ride on his recent momentum in Napa. After a T7 at the Tour Championship, JT arrives here as the 17th best in putting on the PGA Tour.

Whereas Sam Burns (+2000) comes with the best putting numbers (SG: Putting +0.924). Meanwhile, Ben Griffin (+2500) is hot on their heels — he has 10 top-ten finishes this season.

But of course, Scottie Scheffler is your man to beat. Everyone, including Captain Keegan, knows it. So, Silverado will crown a winner this week, but the real prize is what's next: the Ryder Cup. The key reason why the American squad (sans Xander and Bryson) is in go mode in Napa.

Team Leader

Just how crucial is Scottie Scheffler to Team USA? Yes, he is the World No.1. Won two majors this year. Been in phenomenal form. But his Ryder Cup record (2-2-3) doesn’t convince the skeptics. Especially after that 9 & 7 thrashing at Marco Simone. Scottie hasn’t forgotten either, as his candid response yesterday will make it clear to you.

But is Keegan worried? Hardly. “I look up to Scottie. I'm not afraid to say that,” Bradley said. The numbers back his confidence. In just 19 starts, Scottie’s notched an astonishing five titles and an incredible 16 top-10s.

But Keegan isn’t talking about that glittering resume. The captain is in awe of Scottie’s ability to soak in pressure. Like LeBron. Like Brady. Like Kobe. And we caught an early glimpse of that yesterday.

Scheffler was reminded that he hadn’t won a tournament on his debut, and he had never won in California. Did it bother him? Well, the World No.1 was in the mood, and he showed a side we rarely get to see from him. Just watch it below:

It’s no surprise Keegan is banking on Scottie. After all, the World No.1 is a different man from 2023 Rome. He has taken his game to a different stratosphere.

Consider this: Scottie’s bounce back percentage — the rate at which a player makes a birdie or better right after a bogey or worse — is at an all-time peak. Can you guess how close he is to 2000s Tiger in that regard? Check it out here.

Scottie might be a one-man wrecking crew. And he might just turn out to be the ‘it’ factor in Keegan’s team.

Band Solution

Frequent range sessions and 18-hole rounds often lead to nagging shoulder pain. Or, you might just pull your shoulder while celebrating, just like Akshay Bhatia did here. Regardless, left unchecked, this constant stress on the joint can develop into more significant problems—rotator cuff tears, impingements, and even full-on instability. But there’s a smarter way to dodge that spiral: resistance band work.

  • Anchor the resistance band at waist height. Set your front foot toward the anchor; rear foot angled forward but able to pivot.

  • Hold the band with your right arm extended, weight mostly on your left leg. Now, pull it with your right arm while rotating your torso and shifting weight from the left to the right leg.

  • Finish with hips and torso rotated, weight on rear leg, elbow pulled back. Return slowly and repeat with control, as demonstrated below.

Slowly return to the start, repeating the motion with smooth control. While this will fix shoulder issues, your back is equally important. But fret not, we have got you covered on that front as well.

Road to Solheim

Excellence and dedication. Sustainability and conservation. What happens when you marry these two? Well, the remarkable feat that Eva-Lotta Strömlid, a former pro and now Head of Client Partnerships at the LET, just pulled off. Eva-Lotta undertook a cycling odyssey from Sweden to the Netherlands' Bernardus Golf Course, the host of next year's Solheim Cup. Just take a look at the astounding distance she covered and the frontiers she crossed between September 4 and September 8.

She was joined by Team Europe and U.S. captains Anna Nordqvist, Angela Stanford, and vice captains Paula Creamer and Caroline Hedwall on the final day. The initiative was undertaken to mark ‘one year to go’ until the 2026 Solheim Cup and its sustainability goals. The tickets are on sale as well — check out the price here.
