Some Things Are Inevitable

Aug 18, 2025 | Edition #185

👋 Hey Golf Fans,
BMW Championship ends, Tour Championship begins, but fellow pros still have no clue how to stop the Scottie freight train from bulldozing everyone at East Lake. We will talk about his latest comeback, plus magical moments you might have missed, a putting drill that'll transform your short game, and an art revolution finally giving golf the style it deserves.
Let’s tee off…

Scheffler Strikes Again

Scottie Scheffler staged a stunning comeback at Caves Valley Golf Club yesterday, erasing a four-shot deficit to claim the BMW Championship at 15-under par. Posting a final round 3-under 67, he beat Robert MacIntyre by two shots.
And added a few more records to his ledger:
First since Tiger (2006-07) to win five tournaments in consecutive seasons.
First since Tom Weiskopf (1973) to net 13 consecutive top-8 finishes.
Fourth player to win 12+PGA Tour wins and 3+ majors in 2 seasons.
The defining moment came not on the 18th, but on the treacherous par-3 17th. He faced an impossible (for us mere mortals) 82-foot chip from the rough with water lurking nearby. Cool as a cucumber, Scheffler pulled off this outrageous hole-out that will give you all the chills.
Standing on the side, 54-hole leader MacIntyre knew his hopes for his first victory on American soil ended then and there. The left-handed Scot had an inauspicious start as well: bogeys on holes 1, 2, and 5 opened the door for Scheffler. He tried to fight back with a late birdie, but Scottie didn’t give him a chance.
This wasn't just any ordinary victory, either. Scheffler played without his trusted caddie, Ted Scott. Instead, Michael Cromie stepped in. On top of it, Caves Valley didn’t make it easier for the duo. The extensively renovated course, with new greens and converted par-5s, dropped the winning score from 27-under in 2021 to just 15-under this time.
Nevertheless, Scheffler now heads to East Lake with significant momentum and another chance to catch Tiger. The only time a FedEx Cup leader shot the lowest score at East Lake was in 2007. No brownie points for guessing who.

Missed Golf Magic

Other than Scottie doing what he does best, and Ben Griffin going on a wild romp after overdosing on creatine — no kidding, hear from his own mouth — the weekend served up moments that had us hitting the replay button. Here are the top five:
Agony: Si Woo Kim misjudged his tee shot on the 17th. But how he reacted to that shocked viewers and added to 2025's troubling player behavior trend. See the meltdown that has raised calls for bans and hefty fines.
Life-changing: Akshay Bhatia aced the 17th hole yesterday. He earned himself a BMW iX M70. The automobile giant will also provide a full four-year scholarship to a caddie in Bhatia’s name. Oh, it was his first ace on the PGA Tour as well. Watch the wholesome moment here.
Jaw-dropping: Robert MacIntyre found himself in penalty area bushes at Caves Valley. From there, he pulled off an all-odds-defying recovery shot and saved par. The best part? Playing mate, Scottie’s face — check it out here.
Genius: Okay, Phil might have lost some charm and credibility. But his short game? Don’t ever doubt that. Barefoot. Toe dipped in water. A wedge in hand. Mickelson left the commentators speechless with this drool-worthy shot.
When in Indy: Jon Rahm was crowned the individual champion of LIV’s 2025 season at Indianapolis. The Spaniard honored famous Indy 500 tradition. No, not a champagne shower. This is by far the weirdest golf celebration… ever?
We are off to the last week of the PGA Tour and LIV Golf now. Stay tuned for our expanded coverage this week.

Coin Magic

You're standing over a four-footer to save par. Your hands get shaky, the stroke gets quick, and you watch helplessly as the ball slides past the hole. Sounds familiar? Even Scottie Scheffler would’ve nodded a year ago. But here is the simple drill that changed it for him:
Drop a penny on your putter's back flange as it is shown here. Take practice strokes without letting it fall.
The coin drops the instant you get jerky or anxious, so your stroke must flow like clockwork. Think grandfather clock, not stopwatch. Your coin stays put, and putts find the cup.
Use this drill for putts inside 10 feet. The coin stabilizes your putter head like a gyroscope. Watch LPGA teaching pro Meredith Kirk demonstrate the drill below.
If this simple coin drill transformed Scottie's putting, imagine what it'll do for your Sunday morning foursomes. What’s better is that you can try this at home on putting mats too. If you are confused about which one to buy, we've got you covered on that.

Rickie Fowler has had enough of haters trolling him online. Just look at how he named and shamed this one.
Watch: Plane crash-lands on golf course in the middle of a round and creates havoc.
Tiger Woods’s legal ‘cease and desist’ order couldn't stop this golf course from opening… they got crafty!

Art Revolution

You know that feeling when you're shopping for golf art? Everything screams 1985 country club. Plaid patterns. Crossed clubs that whisper ‘members only.’
Eric Woo felt it too.
This UC Davis economics major spent months staring at his blank workout room wall. Then he noticed something weird. Golf was attracting 20-somethings in Air Jordan sneakers, but the art stayed frozen in time.
So he launched ParxDesign in 2024. Simple fonts. Elegant designs. Just check out this Augusta National homage and you will see why folks are obsessed.
His pieces sold immediately. Now he's partnering with emerging artists and donating 5% to First Tee. The guy doesn't just design for golfers; he designs as one. And not just graphic designs, caricature, and painting, Woo does photography too. The full gallery won’t disappoint you.
Some records never lose their edge. These timeless classic rock albums defined an era and still sound just as powerful today:
Eric Clapton – Slowhand: Featuring “Lay Down Sally” and “Wonderful Tonight,” this 1977 classic blends bluesy guitar riffs with heartfelt ballads. Watch Clapton’s Royal Albert Hall performance here.
Eagles – Hotel California: A masterpiece of harmonies and storytelling, the title track still remains one of rock’s most iconic anthems. Listen to Don Felder explain the story behind the iconic song.
The Rolling Stones – Sticky Fingers: Known for its gritty swagger and hits like “Brown Sugar” and “Wild Horses,” it’s the peak Stones energy. Have you listened to this version of Wild Horses?
The Beatles – Abbey Road: From “Come Together” to the medley on side two, this is The Beatles’ perfect swan song. This Rooftop concert still gives goosebumps.
Bob Dylan – Highway 61 Revisited: Electric Dylan at his finest, with “Like a Rolling Stone” leading the charge in redefining rock. Listen to this rendition featuring Dylan and the Rolling Stones.
