Jordan Spieth made his PGA Tour debut on a sponsor exemption. In 2010, then 16-year-old Spieth wrote a letter to the tournament director of AT&T Byron Nelson, highlighting his dreams of making his debut at the event, a memorable moment with Phil Mickelson, Byron Nelson’s legacy, and also noted his junior golf achievements. He was sitting in class at the Jesuit College Preparatory School in Dallas, when he got the phone call from tournament officials. A few days later, he netted a T16 at the tournament.
