On 16 September 1869, Tom Morris Jr. made the first recorded hole in one in the Open Championship, likely the first ever reported in golf history. The ace came at the 8th hole, called the ‘Station,’ which measured 166 yards, though the club he used is unknown. This marked Young Tom’s second Open win at just 18, having claimed his first the previous year. He went on to win again in 1870, securing the Championship Belt outright.
