The Wait Continues... Sorry Fleetwood

June 23, 2025 | Edition #158

 👋 Hey Golf Fans,

Two 54-hole leaders started their round on an inauspicious note. Tommy Fleetwood bogeyed the 1st & 3rd. Minjee Lee bogeyed the 3rd, 5th, and 6th. A few hours later, one was bathed in champagne on the green, as you can see here. The other went home tear-eyed and empty-handed.

Ground reports and more from the Travelers Championship and the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship, and the rest of golf too, in today’s edition. Let’s get started…

Ill-fated

In the end, it wasn’t meant to be. Tommy Fleetwood, despite his mid-round salvaging and half the world praying for him, couldn’t shake off that unsavory record—most top-tens (42) without a PGA Tour victory. The Englishman carded 2-over 72 in the final round of the Travelers Championship to (once more) miss out on PGA Tour silverware by one stroke.

Keegan Bradley, on the other hand, fired a 2-under 68 to walk away with a smile… and take another step towards becoming a playing-captain at Bethpage Black!

Despite being in the final pairing with Fleetwood, Bradley was three shots back with four holes to play. But Fleetwood bogeyed the 16th, saved par on the 17th, and three-putted for another bogey on the final hole. So at the 18th, Bradley needed a birdie putt to avoid the playoff.

He fired his approach to less than six feet from the pin and drained the birdie putt. The American raised his fist, chest-bumped his caddie, and roared to rouse an already fired-up gallery beaming with ‘Go USA’ chants. His sons ran onto the green, and Keegan just flipped the switch from Captain America to full-on dad mode—watch the heartmelting moment here.

Family was there for Fleetwood as well. It was an emotional defeat—a wreck. And to soothe his pains, he was seen hugging his son and his wife outside the ropes. It’s now his 42nd top-ten without a win—the most by anyone in the last four decades.

Golf can be cruel sometimes. And no one knows that better than Tommy Fleetwood right now!

Around the Golf World

Other than the Bradley-Fleetwood showdown, the golf world witnessed a thrilling drama across different tours. Here is what caught our attention (and what you probably missed):

Enjoy yourself: Miguel Angel Jimenez was asked on Saturday what he would do before the final round. His response: bottle of wine, big fat cigar, and ‘enjoy himself’. 24 hours later, he was holding his fourth trophy of the season, and guess how he celebrated right there on the greens?

Recovery: Rory McIlroy did something crazy (again) on Sunday. En route to his sixth top-ten of this season, the Ulsterman found himself in the gallery… during play at the 15th. Just look at where he hit from to go on and birdie the hole!

Lucky break: Denny McCarthy’s tee shot travelled miles right and landed among the spectators. A big bounce, it went further away. Then it started rolling back, and you’ll never believe where it ended up:

Wedge putt: Maja Stark, the reigning U.S. Women’s Open champion, slammed her putter so hard it broke in two. She had to putt with her wedge, and the result was ironic as you’ll see here.

59 & 59: Two players, Myles Creighton and Adrien Dumont de Chassart, shot 59 at the Kansas Wichita Open. Creighton became the first Canadian to pull this off in KFT. It also landed him his silverware.

That’s the weekly wrap-up for you. The PGA Tour will return to action with the Rocket Mortgage Classic and the LPGA Tour with the Great Lakes Bay Invitational this week. LIV Golf returns as well with the Dallas event. Just golf everywhere you look… and we love it!

Stick to Your Guns

Alignment sticks are a great way to fix your swing. But pros use them in a very different way than we amateurs do—look at Scottie on the range here. We did some digging, and so, here are some ways to use alignment sticks in a pro-like manner:

📏 Place an alignment stick ten yards (vertically) from your starting point. Next, hit your drives to the right of the stick. This way, you will know exactly where your clubface is aimed during impact.

🔄 PGA Pro Brendon Elliott advises his students to record the swing from the down-the-line view. Make slow swings with two alignment sticks placed 4 inches apart, and your clubhead moving between them.

🏊‍♂️ Top golf teacher James Hong suggests this exercise: hold the alignment stick across your chest so that each end sticks out equally. Next, do a backstroke swimming motion just like Hong shows here.

Now that you know the drills, let’s take a step back to the most important part of them—the alignment stick in itself! Make sure you’re using the ideal one for you. And this will help with that:

Paige Spiranac plays better in ‘less clothes’. The golf beauty made this revelation herself recently in her recent post after playing like ‘sh*t’.

Nelly Korda and her peers were ‘insulted’ at the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship. And now the LPGA is paying the price for the mismanagement!

Phil Mickelson’s online nemesis, and author of his unofficial biography, reveals why he exposed Lefty. Was it a grudge, or something else entirely?

Do the Right Thing

Most of us have at least once seen a club (sometimes brand new) lying around the greens. Likely, some golfer left it behind there. Or someone forgot it while looking for their ball (ironically). So, what’s the right thing to do if you come across an ownerless club?

Firstly, that shouldn’t be a question. But, of course, some unscrupulous persons do grace the greens at times.

Take this random guy, one golfer was paired with, as an example. The pair saw a club, and guess what? Only ONE of them wanted it to return to the clubhouse. The other person thought the 56-degree Cleveland was a good addition to his arsenal. You’ll never guess how hard karma hit the nefarious one just seconds later.

It’s golf, people—’The Gentleman’s Game’ don’t ruin it!

Everyone knows the big names. But sometimes the real gems are just off the beaten path! So, if you’re ready to branch out from your usual pour, these scotches bring bold flavor, rich stories, and a little something different to the glass.

  1. The Dalmore: It’s a rich, sherried, indulgent pick that feels like a special occasion. The gorgeous bottle and look match the drink’s elegance, too!

  2. Glenlivet: Often overshadowed, but delivers consistent, approachable single malts that deserve more attention.

  3. Buchanan’s: A refined, underrated blend with a long heritage and a smooth, mellow finish. It’s perfect for cocktails too, like you’ll see here.

  4. Little Rest: A newer name, but smooth, complex, and full of small-batch character.

  5. Laphroaig: Smoky, peaty, and unapologetically bold. The perfect choice if you like your scotch with an edge. Hear it from the experts.
