Thitikul Makes It Look So Easy

Nov 24, 2025 | Edition #229

👋 Hey Golf Fans,
Jeeno Thitikul seems inevitable now. At the CME Group Tour Championship, she one-upped her best friend to win her third title of the season. Today, we’ll delve into how that happened, the few records she made, winners across other tournaments, and also give you a chance to rate a pro’s singing.
Let’s get started…

Relentless

If you’re placing a bet, jot down Jeeno Thitikul’s name. Right at the top. Because the Thai phenom has done it again at the CME Group Tour Championship. She entered the final round with a six-shot lead over Nelly Korda and compatriot Pajaree Anannarukarn, but had to fend off an early Sunday charge from the latter.
Anannarukarn made five birdies in seven holes to close within two heading to the back nine. Then Thitikul made birdies on 10 and 13. Anannarukarn blinked with a bogey at the par-3 12th. The lead was back to five, and Thitikul was sauntering to another win. On the 72nd hole, she dropped in her final birdie for a 26-under 262 and a four-shot triumph over her compatriot.
You’d think Anannarukarn would be heartbroken, but guess who was the first person to douse Thitikul in champagne? Yes, you guessed right. Watch the inspiring moment of sportsmanship here.
With this victory, Thitikul made LPGA history:
Shattered Annika Sorenstam’s 23-year-old record to post the lowest-ever scoring average (68.681).
Became only the third player to break the 69 mark for the season.
Became the second golfer to go back-to-back at CME Group Tour Championship.
This $4M title defense also made Thitikul the fastest LPGA pro to cross the $13 million career earnings mark. She even moved ahead of Lexi Thompson and Nelly Korda, who matched an unsavory Tiger Woods record: becoming the only player since 2010 to draw a blank after a seven-win season.
Meanwhile, Thitikul is going to win the LPGA Player of the Year Award and hoist the Vare Trophy (her second).
Oh, and she is still 22.

Miss, Melody, and More

Joy: At the CME Group Tour Championship, rookie Chisato Iwai caught everyone off guard during the live walk-and-talk. She wanted to sing. And sing she did. Along with a little bit of dancing. Frivolous? Well, the 22-year-old already has one title under her belt and bagged a T13 at the LPGA season finale. We’ve been watching this on loop, and trust us, you should too.
Odd: Think it’s impossible to hit a hole-in-one and not celebrate? Sam Stevens would chuckle. The PGA Tour pro aced the par-3 3rd at the RSM Classic, the second of his career, the 10th in tournament history, and 26th of this season. Then strolled off the tee box. No roar. No fist pump. Stoic? Not really. Find out the curious reason here (you’re in for a good giggle).
Tsk Tsk: In retrospect, the CME Group Tour Championship was four days of great-shots-punished-by-golf-gods. But none stung more than Minjee Lee’s hole-out eagle that wasn’t. On the 15th, Lee struck her approach perfectly. Perhaps too perfect, but watch what happened next — it’s sheer agony.

Around the World

PGA Tour: Sami Valimaki didn’t know it then, but destiny had set him up for history. As a Finnish youngster, he dreamed of playing in the NHL. But he was picked for his national golf team instead. That changed the direction of his life, and yesterday he became Finland’s first-ever PGA Tour winner, after posting a 23-under 259 at the RSM Classic. Shoutout to his fans, who traveled 4,850 miles from Helsinki to cheer for him in Georgia. Witness how they celebrated with Valimaki on the greens.
Asian Tour: Josele Ballester wrapped up his week at the PIF Saudi International at 22-under 262 for his first professional victory. The 22-year-old finished three clear of Caleb Surratt. With ball speeds north of 195 mph, the kid practically defies physics. He also defies rules, like urinating at hallowed Rae’s Creek, for example, and then coming up with this cheeky statement. On a serious note, watch out for this young gun. Oh, in case you missed it, Anthony Kim netted a T5, his first top-ten since the 2011 Singapore Open.
Sunshine Tour: Casey Jarvis claimed his second win in three weeks, firing a 24-under 264 to win the Vodacom Origins of Golf. Runner-up Barend Botha made him work for it. On the 18th, both birdied to push it into a playoff. They traded birdies again, twice, on the par-five 18th during the playoff. Then, Jarvis eagled the third playoff hole as Botha settled for birdie. Jarvis’s cathartic yell and massive fist pump will tell you how much it meant for him.

Nip It

Winter is almost here, and that means brace yourself for wet and sometimes muddy lies. No one likes it, but some, like Jeeno Thitikul, make it look like a walk in the park — savor her spectacular recovery shot from thick mud. Here’s how you can do it.
Place the ball just back of center in your stance, and make sure your chest bone is ahead of the ball.
Put more weight on the left leg to ensure a ball-first contact. If needed, raise your hands slightly at address to ensure a crisp contact.
Finish through the shot with a shorter, more assertive follow-through. Allow your hands to stay in front of the clubhead for a lower, stronger strike. Let PGA Pro Dan Grieve demonstrate it for you.
These three tips will certainly eliminate the word ‘duff’ from your winter golf vocabulary. But to elevate your game further, try these other tips listed below.
