The PGA Player of the Year award has existed since 1948. Ben Hogan won the inaugural honor and earned it three more times total. In 1990, the PGA Tour and PGA of America created separate awards: the PGA Tour Player of the Year, voted by membership and awarding the Jack Nicklaus Trophy; and the PGA of America's points-based version, given to the player accumulating the most points in a season. |
