On September 2, 1946, Ben Hogan edged past Chick Harbert by a single stroke to win the Golden State Open. This came on the heels of his win at the PGA Championship, marking his third consecutive PGA Tour win, and overall 11th title of the season. It also marked the second time that year Hogan won three straight tournaments.
